Buying New Versus Used

For a long time, people used to put down buying a used car. I used to be one of those people. This was also what has now, ultimately, put me in a less than desirable situation. Like so many other people, I used to think that owning a used car was beneath me. After all, how would the car ever truly be yours if you were just getting someone else's leftovers? There was also the fact that whenever I sat in a used car at a dealership, it always had that smell of someone else. I found it to be incredibly irritating!

Very Tiny Cars

The other day, I was driving on the highway and was passed by a yellow Smart Car. Approximately two to three minutes later, a blue Smart Car passed me. It seemed a little ridiculous to me, and I had to laugh. There I was, driving down the highway in my Jeep, and I was being passed left and right by cars that were a quarter of the size of mine. I wondered whether or not I was going fast enough. Looking down at my speedometer, I realized that I was driving just over five miles above the speed limit (which is relatively slow by most people's standards).

The Courageous Niki Lauda

Niki Lauda is an icon in Formula 1 history, not just for his driving skills that were certainly impressive but also for his indomitable courage and grit in face of personal tragedy. Niki was the son of a wealthy Austrian paper manufacturer and as a child showed an intense interest in and love of cars. The family indulged what they thought was a passing fancy by allowing him to drive at an early age and at age 12, to park their visitors' cars. Then, to their utter dismay, Niki decided he wanted to pursue a career in auto racing rather than enter the university. Since they felt this would bring dishonor upon the family name, they refused to support his goal.

The Road Rage Experience

Road rage is something that we will all probably experience at some point in our lives. It happens when there is a lot of traffic, when you are having a bad day or most often, when someone else's driving is less than stellar and somehow inadvertently affects your ability to drive in a sane, calm manner.

Every year, there are numerous accidents that are the result of someone's road rage. Someone who cuts someone else off because they are angry or are simply trying to get through traffic can cause a sudden backlash whereby other people who aren't prepared for such driving maneuvers suddenly find themselves losing control over their vehicles. More than once, I have witnessed people becoming so enraged and angry that I almost called the police to report the person's license plate number (which you can do by the way).

Traffic Cameras

Traffic cameras are an important aspect of the transportation system in the United States. They are not the same thing as red light cameras, which are used to take pictures and video of motorists running red lights, sending the picture and ticket to the culprit. In fact, traffic cameras are used for a much different thing. Traffic cameras are used to monitor the flow of traffic, watch for accidents and other safety issues on the highway. These cameras are also helpful when it comes to figuring out which route motorists should take when heading to work, school, shopping, the big game or to family events.

Flying Versus Driving

There are many reasons why flying on an airplane beats driving any day of the week. For one thing, flying is significantly faster than driving and therefore, it takes less time to achieve. Additionally, in some instances (especially during times when gas prices are extremely high), flying makes more sense. The only downside to flying comes when you are deathly afraid of rocketing through the air at a high rate of speed. However, there is no need to be afraid to fly.
