Interest in electric vehicles is on the rise. For a variety of reasons this interest is unlikely to dissipate in the foreseeable future. These reasons range from climate change and environmental pollution, to the gradual depletion of fossil fuels worldwide, and to the nationalistic desire to reduce dependence on imported oil. Each country faces its own unique set of challenges but environmental pressures and the looming background threat of global warming are common to all. In the US, it has been estimated by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory that if 73% of the countrys cars and light vehicles turned electric, it could cut oil demand by an estimated 6.2 million barrels per day, approximately half of the countrys current imports.

Electric Vehicle EV Infrastructure Manufacturing report ( http://www.bharatbook.com/detail.asp?id=129755&rt=Electric-Vehicle-EV-Infrastructure-Manufacturing.html ) assesses that Plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs), including cars, buses, and trains, are being developed around the world, with much work aiming to optimize engine and battery for efficient operation, both during discharge and when grid electricity is available for recharging. The general expectation has been that an established electric infrastructure will not be greatly affected by the increased use of EVs because the recharging will occur during off-peak hours, or the number of vehicles will grow slowly enough so that capacity planning will respond adequately.

Hybrid Car Market Forecast to 2012 Report ( http://www.bharatbook.com/Market-Research-Reports/Hybrid-Car-Market-Forecast.html ) The concept of hybrids has emerged as the most viable solutions and has been gaining considerable attention among the industry players. The rapidly growing concerns over the reduction of carbon emissions coupled with highly volatile oil prices have forced the global automobile players to invest massive amounts into the development of advanced and better alternative fuel vehicles over the recent past. This trend is clearly visible from the fact that the hybrid car sales worldwide showed a positive growth compared to an overall decline in the global automobile sales in 2008.
