In many countries throughout the world, having a car is virtually a necessity. Developed societies are so spread out that everyday life is difficult to conduct without a personal vehicle. For these reasons, the sale of new vehicles has been a lucrative field since the development of the Model-T.
However, the troubled financial climate of late is affecting the purchasing power of consumers world-wide. This phenomenon is in turn affecting industries across the board. New car manufacturers have not escaped the effects of the credit crunch and a depressed economy.

A new transmission has been designed for the Lincoln MKS. Just in time for the release of its new EcoBoost engine I might add.
Lincoln’s gorgeous new full size sedan is the MKS, a vast improvement on the aged Lincoln Town Car. Available in front or all wheel drive, the car is roomy, luxurious and soon to get an additional boost of power thanks to a new engine and transmission configuration rolling out this summer.
The Ford Motor Company is banking much of its success on what they’re calling EcoBoost technology. This technology takes a standard engine and makes it more powerful thanks to direct injection and twin turbochargers. A standard 3.5L V6 produces adequate power, but when it has been converted to an EcoBoost format, horsepower and torque increase to equal what is normally found in a V8. Moreover, more power is achieved without sacrificing fuel economy.

The beat goes on, the Chevrolet Beat that is. The diminutive subcompact from GM is slated to appear stateside next year, an all new model for the Chevy brand.
Pummeled by a tough financial market and high gas prices last year, General Motors was pushed to the brink of bankruptcy but managed to avert collapse when the federal government intervened by lending the automaker some much needed cash. That event likely saved GM, at least for the short term, while signaling the company that they needed to restructure and do that quickly.

GM has been hit hard in recent months, partially due to its lack of
attractive, affordable compacts. But that’s not to say they don’t have
at least one! The .
With 27 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, the fuel economy is
one of the Aveo’s strengths. Plus, acceleration is also decent. By no
means does that Aveo5 offer speedy acceleration and power, but the
little car does get up and go without too much struggle. An anomaly
though is that the Aveo5 does not come with standard ABS, while much of
the competition does. That being said, the brakes still bring the car
to a halt without too much struggle and remains easy to control.

The drivers have noted that there truly is only minimal lag and an absence of a sudden explosion of boost.
The front-wheel drive Cobalt SS can hit 60 miles per hour in about
5.7 seconds, and complete the quarter mile in just over 14 seconds.
Another new feature for 2008 is the no-lift shift mode, which will
limit revs and help with traction off the line and between shifts. , the Chevy Cobalt SS may offer
a unique blend of power and fuel economy economy that many buyers at Boonville Chevrolet have already become drawn to compared with more expensive or more thirsty sports cars on the market.

Chrysler won’t make it even with federal assistance, so says one prominent industry analyst.
With executives from America’s three largest automakers seeking billions of dollars of aid money from the federal government, the question that often pops up is whether the automakers will need additional funding down the road several months hence. The question that isn’t being asked is this one: will the aid actually do any good?
One analyst, Michael Robinet, CSM vice president of global vehicle forecasts, says that as far as Chrysler is concerned, the aid money won’t save the company. In an interviewed published recently in The Detroit News, Robinet said that the “Big Three? most certainly will become the “Detroit Two? when all is said and done.

The Taurus X may be on life support, ready to be killed off by Ford this winter. This CUV has never been popular, a model crowded out in a field over run with competing models.
Among the many problems the Ford Motor Company has encountered over the past few years is trying to come up with a fleet of passenger vehicles with strong customer appeal. This past year the economical Ford Focus has sold quite well and, thanks to retreating gas prices, the F-Series trucks are rebounding while its mid-size twins ? the Fusion, Milan and MKZ ? are also moving off of dealer lots.

Big trucks are back including the Ford SVT Raptor, perhaps the most powerful pickup truck available today.
The Ford Motor Company has certainly been taking its lumps over the
past few years, with 2008 likely to go down as one of the worst years
in the company’s history. Sales are down, consumer credit is tight, and
fluctuating gas prices has wreaked havoc on an already strained
industry.
Ford’s
champion, the F-150 pickup truck, has seen its sales drop sharply as
buyers avoid vehicles that consume copious amounts of gasoline in favor
of smaller, lighter vehicles which squeeze out every drop of fuel
possible. That shift has caught Ford off guard as their most fuel
efficient cars can be found in Europe while its American operation
leans toward heavier, more powerful vehicles.
