Electric car shoppers are already disappointed, who will be next?! The Chevrolet Volt had been receiving press and attention for quite some time, but that didn't seem to stop General Motors from making a botched mess of it. It kept pushing back the release date, and then finally it made the announcement that the Volt wouldn't be an electric car after all, but would be a different type of hybrid where it wouldn't have a gasoline powered engine, but would use gasoline to power an on-board generator to create electricity to power the Volt's electric motors.

Everyone knows the current state of the economy; it appears in news reels every day. However, it is very common that bad news distracts the public from the good. The motor sector was hit hard in the past few years, but there is plenty of automotive industry news to be very excited about.
Public awareness has been consistently growing about issues such as global warming and man-made greenhouse gases. With this constant global environmental education comes a common urge to help the situation. Choices are being made with the earth's wellbeing in mind and as such much stock is being put on improved efficiency and reduced emissions when people buy cars.

Calculating gas mileage and car options to consider when looking for improved fuel consumption
Every car manufacturer is looking for new technologies that will allow it to make fuel-efficient cars. Vehicles that will offer significant better mileage and lower polluting emissions. This is how hybrid cars were born. Fuel costs have risen significantly and cars consume a lot of fuel especially when driving around town. Large engines eat up significant amounts of gasoline or diesel fuel and using hybrid technologies is intended to improve the cars mileage and reduce its emissions. There are several small and medium sized hybrid cars (Honda and Toyota are offering their Prius and Civic sedan hybrid) on the market today. However, although you can buy a small hybrid car, until recently you were unable to buy a car hybrid SUV. Large 4×4 SUVs are heavier, need larger and more powerful engines to accelerate them to highway cruising speeds and people buying them were not particularly interested in fuel economy. However, the market has changed and while the demand for large SUVs is on the rise, so is the demand for more economical 4x4s.
