There was a time that the life expectancy of a vehicle was around 100,000 miles. Today, vehicle life expectancy is much greater. Many vehicles remain very dependable at the 200,000 to 300,000 mile range if they have regular service. This makes used vehicles a great bargain.

What is the scrappage scheme?
Anyone who wants to trade in a vehicle that's 10 or more years old gets 2,000 off the price of a new one. The 300 million scheme applies to cars and vans and began on May 18, 2009. It will continue until early 2010.
